Marilyn.............

Critical and Contextual part of painting, tomorrow we are expected to construct a instillation in response to a painting by a creditable artist......I have looked thruough a hand full and choose one by Marilyn Minter.......

This is a painting by Marilyn Minter, its is a very seductive painting in my opinion,
I like the idea of chewing pearls being portrayed in a risqué manner....

This video also helped my choice....I love how wet it is and it will be interesting to portray it through the medium of paint...:) Below are a few other artists I considered...

This sketch is by an artist called Frank Auerbach...I loved the movement in the lines...

This Instillation is by a Artist called Angela De La Cruz, the shape of this piece is very interesting, reminds me of the female body and a arching hand.....

I like this piece by Christopher Wool due to its intricacy....

This is a beautiful painting by and artist called Alyssia Monks, I love how she created the wet look to the painting and successfully created the moments before a woman submerges herself in water......

PAINTING......

Just started my two weeks of my painting elective, to be honest first day wasn't very good, boring in fact, but I do like painting as a discipline so I'm going to hanging there and not totally dismiss it. The two weeks we were is basically exploring the discipline of painting, which as usual is extremely vague....

We started with picking Images that inspire and excite us so I choose Alexander Mcqueen, His designs always excite me and I choose images from my own work and from nature which I tend to get a lot my inspiration from,

The two Images above are inspiring to me, I was thinking about the veins and the heart and how they need protection,

The surface of the Heart is protected by Muscle and fat and a ribe cage, which is like a suit of armour, and I looked at different animals and thought of feathers on a bird and how they evolved from scales to beautifl a various colours and shapes, Feathers aren't the kind of protect the protects from hard more the kind that protects from extinction by attracting partners with there beauty and can intimidate rivals a predators with there size,

In all three pieces Mcqueen used feathers to create both beautiful and Intimidating Pieces, he used dyed duck feathers, sprayed gold feathers and Pheasant feathers,

"Birds in flight fascinate me. I admire eagles and falcons. I'm inspired by a feather but also its colour, its graphics, its weightlessness and its engineering. Its so elaborate. Infact I try transpose the beauty of a bird to women."

I found this Quote In "Alexander Mcqueen, Savage Beauty Catalogue" pg 172.

I want to attempt to translate the beauty and protectiveness of natural armour to painting during the next two weeks.

Body Cast From Hell....

Here I used Plaster Bandages to create a cast of my torso.....

I then created a frame made from wire and wood to support the cast on its own.

I then proceeded to stich then pattern of a heart and veins in to the torso.

This is an unfinished piece I intended to have a few more veins sewn in to it.

From Hell........Beautiful Disease....

This is the sixth and final piece of this "Embroidery From Hell" collection, The last unlike the other focuses on the blood of the heart as a spreader of disease through out the body.....

The green leaf like pattern represents the disease, kinda looks like a hash leaf haha, I choose green cause that is the colour I represent with disease,

I used a dark blue thread to give the valves of the heart definition,

I then used pink thread to give the heart a 3D appearance, which didn't really work in my opinion,

The disease begins to spread away from the heart in the form of a green artery,

The close up of the heart and the "Disease" in my opinion is quiet eye catching,

The back of the piece,

The Final faze, the piece mounted on a wooden frame and ready to join the 5 others.

From Hell........

The Images above depict my "Fish and Chips Heart", it is meant to be like a parcel you open and the blood and veins of the heart sprawl and grasp outwards, the wet effect was achieved by mixing paint and liquid latex, I also drew inspiration from the film "From Hell" directed by Albert and Allen Hughes, staring Johnny Depp, the scence is were Johnny Depp receives a package containing a human kidney from Jack the Ripper.....

While making the "Fish and Chips Heart" I got a taste for stiching and decided to go down the embroidery route.

This is my favourite image, it shows the inticate blue and red veins and how their coluir compliments each other,

In this piece I began to mix felted wool with  embroidery, The effect was effective and visually pleasing in my opinion.....

In this piece I used blue as the dominant colour instead of red.....I then left lose thread from each stitched vein, I put the piece in the washing machine in order to felt it a bit, then spread the thread with starch and tossed them around for a more organic look.

This is a fiber optic light, the picture was taken with a slow shutter speed...or something..lol

In this piece the main part was felted wool with embroided veins,

Examples of the wool used,

I stitched the out line of the veins and looped thread inbetween them to fill the middle,
